Since the show’s experimental first outings as Z Unleashed a few years back, Zoë has worked with Laurence Olivier award award winning director Toby Sedgwick. and LAMDA director, designer, actor and greek chorus specialist John Baxter on new shows, and won the 2011 Katherine McGillivray award to develop the show further.
Since then the show has had performances at over 50 venues across the UK and abroad, including festivals in Reykjavik, MORS festival Denmark, Copenhagen, Banff, Canada, Aldeburgh, Plush, FIMLuque Andalucia and Wigmore Hall.
Wildly original Revue Z features musical numbers in a dazzling array of styles, dramatic monologues, explosive, moving and sometimes extremely silly theatrical interludes, linked together by the shimmering virtuosity of Martlew’s cello playing, which incorporates the extremes of avant garde extended playing techniques, all combined with multi-layered vocal, instrumental and computer sample pre-recorded playback.
The show has had numerous outings at all kinds of venues including arts festivals, theatres, pubs, avant garde music festivals, schools, chamber music courses, university lecture halls the cellars of a kayak club in Copenhagen. See What’s On for upcoming performances.
