Purcell Room

Demystify concert hall etiquette and discover classical music in a whole new way in this fun and interactive experience.

As a new season of concerts begins at Southbank Centre, this is your moment to ask what the rules of classical music really are. How should you behave? When can you clap? What should you listen out for?

These questions and more are answered by a specialist panel including James Murphy (Royal Philharmonic Society), Southbank Centre’s own Director of Music, Gillian Moore, dynamic cellist and composer Zoë Martlew, composer Daniel Kidane and pianist David Owen Norris – renowned for his cult ‘Chord of the Week’ section on the BBC’s Proms Extra.

Zoë and David will also be performing part of Beethoven’s 5th cello and piano sonata.

With your £10 ticket, you can bring up to three friends for £5 each – a great way to secure concert buddies for the season.

This event directly precedes the Aurora Orchestra’s performance of Beethoven’s iconic Symphony No.5. Why not make a day of it and put your new knowledge to use in this sure-to-impress concert?

Presented in association with the Royal Philharmonic Society.
